A day-trip round the island is a must for visitors to Symi,
giving tourists the chance to see parts of the island inaccessible by
road.
Several boats leave Symi harbour
each morning, with the itineraries changing from day to day. Popular
destinations include the beach at Agios Vasilios, the
monastery at Panormitis and Sesklia island.
The photos on these pages were taken on
the 'Diagoras' boat on a trip to the beautiful beach at Agios
Vasilios. The route taken can be seen in the photo on the
left.
Leaving Symi at 10.30 a.m. you
sail through the Diapori straits and weigh anchor for the first swim of
the day. The Captain stops several times to allow guests to swim and
snorkel in the beautifully clear water, or to pick fresh figs from the
groves by the sea.
During the journey, you can
either sunbathe on the deck or stay under the shade of the awnings.
Anchored at Agios Vasilios, you
can choose to be ferried over to the beach for an hour or stay on the boat
as the Captain prepares the barbecue. The table is eventually laid with a
feast including souvlaki, spaghetti
Bolognese, fried potatoes, chicken pieces, pork chops, salad, feta cheese
and olives, all washed down with fruit juice or retsina.
The 'Diagoras' is available to
charter for sight-seeing, fishing or snorkelling trips, itineraries to be
agreed with the Captain. For further details please send us e-mail or telephone the
