Out & About - early July '08

Photo taken from balcony of room 20 at Hotel Fiona of boats awaiting mooring space in Symi harbour as summer boat traffic “heats up”. As one resident said, “I like to see boats waiting, then I know that tourist season is here!”

What’s wrong with this picture? An unsuspecting tourist parks their van in front of the ferry dock, blocking vehicular and passenger traffic on and off the ferry.

When renting a car, motorbike or van on Symi, it can be hard to tell whether or not you are parking your car in the right place. There are often no signs to tell you whether the parking spot you have chosen is legal or not. To be safe, ask a local, they should know the rules even if you don’t! As “No Parking” signs can vary from country to country, look for the blue and red signs.
