An artist's house in the oldest part of Chorio, this characterful dwelling follows the old traditional layout of rooms grouped around a large vine-covered courtyard. Situated about 10 minutes walk up through the lanes from the junior school in Chorio, just above Stavros church and the Kateraktis, in the winding lanes of Medieval Symi, the destination is worth the climb. The entrance is up a flight of steps to the right of an ancient tunnel which runs right underneath the house and courtyard. On your right as you come into the first small courtyard there is a small library/living room with a moussandra above which sleeps two people. Ahead of you is the door to the salon which in the summer time is used as a large airy bedroom for two people. This is elegantly decorated with stencilling depicting the four seasons of the year. A few steps lead through to the main courtyard, shaded by a large vine and an old lemon tree. Planters of roses and herbs add colour to this outdoor living room, which is also equipped with an outdoor fireplace and a wooden deck. The kitchen, with electric hob, fridge and freezer leads off from this courtyard. Another arched gateway leads from the main courtyard to another courtyard where the bathroom is located. There are views in a variety of directions including Pedi and Nimos. This house is
ideal for two couples or a family of four who do not mind sharing a
bathroom - and do not mind a bit of a climb. "I
wanted to let you know what a privilege it was for us to spend a week
at Villa Irene. We were so impressed by the grace and individuality of
the house and its immediate surroundings."
This includes transfer on arrival and cleaning and fresh linen every three days. |
