Jeanine though reserved special praise for
the 200-odd extras who were recruited locally.
'They looked really good, and they were so nice and pleasant to deal with. Not only that,
they all seemed to have a natural talent for playing their parts, no matter what they were
asked to do.
'As a matter of fact the entire population of the Island was really helpful, and didn't
complain at all about mind the disruptions we must have caused.
'One particular incident which comes to mind happened when we arrived at a beach at a
week-end and a Greek family were already there, complete with their children and three
different boats. Three times we had to ask them to move the boats, and they didn't grumble
once. I have to say that if I'd been on a holiday weekend I would't have been too
happy about a film crew crashing in on me.'

filmed, we suddenly heard a third
'yiasu'.....eventually we realised that this had come from one of the local boatmen who
had just responded naturally to the greeting.
'We shot the scene again....and again got a third voice on the sound-track.We had to do it
a third time before the boatman finally got the message.
'Later, another incident involved a different boatman. This time he was asked to disappear
below deck as one of the main characters had to be seen alone on the boat. This was fine -
but it was half an hour after the shot had been completed that anyone remembered the poor
man and went down to tell him that it was alright to come on deck again.'
Multi-national
The cast and crew were definitely an
international group - a mixture of German, English, Spanish and Greek - but although
conversations were often multi-lingual, everyone communicated well.
