Well-known
for its spectacular Neo-Classical
harbour, Symi also features superb walking terrain. During May and
September walkers from all over the world arrive on the
island to enjoy routes ranging from basic
explorations of the harbour and the old town to longer walks venturing
through the island's heavily wooded interior, visiting the many small
chapels and monasteries encountered as well as the more spectacular of
Symi's otherwise inaccessible bays.
There
are
regular guided walks during the
summer months,
often linked to a sail back on one of the day-trip boats.
Alternatively you can
purchase a copy of 'Walks on Symi' whichincludes 20 walks, covering most of this
attractive southeast Aegean
island, with its numerous tiny monasteries and wonderful panoramic
views. Accompanied by an A2 colour walkers' map of the island which is the most
comprehensive and up to date available. Contact the
Symi Visitor to reserve your copy: symi-vis@otenet.gr
